London Bet is looking for an experienced Senior Compliance Manager & Head of AML (MLRO) to take ownership of our compliance function and play an important role in the next stage of our development.

We are a growing UK sportsbook with ambitions to build something substantial. At a time when much of the industry is consolidating and reducing headcount, we are continuing to invest in our business, our people and our compliance capability.

The role

This is a hands-on senior compliance role. You won't be sitting at a distance from the operation or simply overseeing work completed by others. We are looking for someone who is comfortable getting into the detail, working through issues, improving controls and processes and taking ownership when something needs to be done.

This is not a role within a large compliance department where responsibility is spread across multiple teams.

As Senior Compliance Manager & Head of AML (MLRO), you will have significant responsibility for the overall effectiveness of our regulatory framework, with particular ownership of our AML framework and MLRO responsibilities, and a meaningful voice in how the business operates and develops.

You will work directly with our Directors, PML holders and wider senior leadership team, providing advice, oversight and challenge while remaining close enough to the operation to understand how our controls work in practice.

We are looking for somebody who understands that strong compliance and commercial ambition do not need to work against one another.

You will be expected to set high standards, challenge where necessary and ensure that London Bet meets its regulatory obligations, while developing practical, proportionate and genuinely risk-based processes that work for our business.

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a broad compliance remit, while leading our AML function as MLRO and being actively involved in the day-to-day operation and development of the compliance framework.

We want someone who has done the job

Our preference is for someone with at least two years' experience in a senior compliance role within a UKGC-licensed sportsbook.

First-hand experience of UK Gambling Commission compliance assessments or regulatory reviews from the operator side is particularly important to us.

We want somebody who understands what regulatory scrutiny looks like in practice: how to prepare a business for an assessment, how to demonstrate that policies and procedures are genuinely embedded within an operation, how to evidence the effectiveness of controls and how to engage confidently and constructively with the Commission.

Experience of building, implementing or materially redesigning a compliance framework would be a significant advantage.

In particular, we would be interested in somebody who has previously taken regulatory requirements and risk assessments and translated them into practical policies, procedures, controls, monitoring and governance across an operating sportsbook.

This role will suit someone who enjoys being close to the detail. While you will have significant responsibility and influence, this isn't a position where you will simply set direction and delegate. You'll be expected to get involved, investigate issues, review controls, identify improvements and work alongside operational teams to make sure compliance works effectively in practice.

A smaller operator, with serious compliance infrastructure

We recognise that moving to a smaller operator can sometimes mean compromising on the technology and resources available to the compliance function.

That isn't the case at London Bet.

We have invested significantly in technology to support our compliance framework, with strong tooling across customer monitoring, AML, safer gambling, KYC and ongoing customer risk management.

We want our Senior Compliance Manager & Head of AML (MLRO) to make full use of that capability, challenge and develop it and ensure that our technology, processes and people work together as one effective compliance framework.

You won't be joining us to compensate for a lack of infrastructure with manual processes. You will be joining us to make sure the infrastructure we have invested in is being used intelligently and effectively.

You'll have the opportunity to work with our existing systems and technology while identifying where they can be improved, better utilised or developed to strengthen our overall compliance approach.

What you'll be responsible for

As Senior Compliance Manager & Head of AML (MLRO), your responsibilities will include:

• Acting as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and maintaining effective oversight of the company's AML framework.
• Providing senior compliance advice, oversight and challenge to Directors, PML holders and senior leadership.
• Maintaining and continually improving the company's compliance framework, policies, procedures and governance arrangements.
• Ensuring compliance with the UK Gambling Commission's LCCP and wider UK gambling regulatory requirements.
• Developing and implementing practical, proportionate and risk-based compliance controls.
• Overseeing AML, KYC, CDD, EDD, source of funds and source of wealth processes.

• Ensuring customer risk assessments and ongoing monitoring are effective and appropriately documented.
• Conducting and overseeing compliance monitoring and testing, identifying emerging risks and ensuring appropriate remediation.
• Supporting the business through UKGC compliance assessments, regulatory reviews and other regulatory engagement.
• Ensuring regulatory requirements are translated into practical processes that are genuinely embedded across the operation.
• Working closely with operational teams to ensure compliance controls work effectively in practice.
• Reviewing and challenging the effectiveness of existing controls and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Using compliance technology and data intelligently to identify risk, improve controls and support effective decision-making.
• Reporting compliance and AML risks, issues and trends to senior management and relevant governance forums.
• Supporting and developing a strong culture of compliance across the business.
• Providing practical guidance and support to colleagues on compliance and AML matters.
• Taking ownership of issues through to resolution rather than simply identifying them.

What we're looking for

Our ideal candidate will have:

• At least two years' experience in a senior compliance role within a UKGC-licensed sportsbook.
• Strong practical experience acting as an MLRO or Deputy MLRO.
• First-hand involvement in UKGC compliance assessments, regulatory reviews or other significant regulatory engagement.
• Strong knowledge of the LCCP and wider UK gambling regulatory framework.
• Extensive practical AML and safer gambling experience.
• A detailed understanding of customer risk assessment, CDD, EDD, source of funds and source of wealth.
• Experience implementing and operating genuinely risk-based compliance frameworks.
• Ideally, experience building, redesigning or materially improving compliance processes and controls.
• Experience working with compliance technology, automated customer monitoring and risk management systems.
• The confidence to advise and challenge senior leadership when necessary.
• The judgement to distinguish between genuine regulatory risk and issues that can be managed proportionately.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical actions.
• A hands-on approach, with the willingness to get into the detail and take ownership of issues rather than simply delegate.

We won't automatically rule out an exceptional candidate who has not yet held a senior compliance role for two years, but they would need to demonstrate compelling equivalent experience and a clear readiness to take significant ownership of the function.
