Role Overview 

The MLRO (Core Markets) is a key senior role within the Risk and AML team. Specifically, the MLRO (CM) is responsible for assisting the Group MLRO in ensuring that the business has systems, controls and procedures in place to prevent financial crime and remove the risk of money laundering or terrorist financing within its business. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Receiving, evaluating and the external submission of suspicious activity reports (SARs) as set out under regulation.  
  • Implement and oversee (on a day-to-day basis) the businesses AML second lines of defence. This involves implementing, managing, and measuring the effectiveness of risk frameworks and their associated controls for our licensed entities.  
  • In conjunction with the Group MLRO the MLRO (CM) provide sound regulatory advice to C-Level and the Boards of Directors on all matters relating to AML, including, but not limited to customer suspicious activity; fraud; bribery & corruption; sanctions/embargoes; and countering terrorist financing.  
  • Assisting the Group MLRO with assessing business AML/CTF compliance, identifying potential weaknesses and initiating measures to rectify them. 
  • Review and recommend any changes to the current internal practices, measures, procedures and controls relevant to the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing.  
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and conduct GAP analyses of existing controls to identify changes necessary to the company’s AML approach and controls. 
  • Assist the Group MLRO in compiling the annual and half yearly MLRO Board reports as well as quarterly periodic reports. 
  • Attend regulatory, technical and external compliance meetings and forums and produce summary papers/minutes; and 
  • In tandem with the Group MLRO develop skills, knowledge and business profile in line with succession planning. 
  • Deputise for the Group MLRO as required ensuring appropriate oversight of all MLTF related operations up to and including Board level. 

Person Specification, Skills, Experience & Qualifications: 

  • 5-10 years practical experience working in a regulated gambling operator or financial services business as the nominated officer, or comparable background in financial crime enforcement. 
  • Previous experience working with law enforcement agencies. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate and gain the respect of all levels of management and staff.
  • Detailed knowledge of the 4th and 5th EU Money laundering Directives, Gibraltar and Canadian Money Laundering Regulations, and the relevant licensing authority guidance notes. 
  • Understands the risks involved with Crypto currencies and has experience with Chainalysis tools. 
  • Understanding of the mechanics & workings of the law enforcement agencies & courts. 
  • Strong administrative skills. 
  • Able to support the Group MLRO to the highest standards in all matters AML/TF/POC related. 
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all documentation, reports and corporate filings are accurate. 
  • Knowledge of AML Laws and Regulation / FATF Recommendations in the UK, Gibraltar, EU and Canada.  
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Fluent English if not a native speaker. 
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of delivering on strategy and key initiatives. 
  • Strong sense of what's right and wrong and willingness to challenge and escalate as required and 
  • An ability to champion and actively support cultural change.
